Life without Windows or OS X

GNU/Linux is quite possibly the most important free software achievement since the original Space War, or, more recently, Emacs. It has developed into an operating system for business, education, and personal productivity. GNU/Linux is no longer only for UNIX wizards who sit for hours in front of a glowing console. Are you thinking about switching to Linux and want to learn how to use it? Have you been using GNU/Linux for some time and want to learn even more? This is the place for you.

The Mini koobox

Koobox computers are built by AOpen, manufactured and shipped directly by Mirus.

Mini koobox is a good system. However it lacks a key feature: a 56k modem. It only has a 1 x 10/100 LAN (RJ-45) port. This keeps this Mini Lin-Box from the masses with this oversight.(Fools)

The entry-level model is powered by a 1.5 GHz Intel Celeron M 370 processor and Intel 915 chipset, and it comes with 256 MB DDR2 RAM and a 40 GB hard drive, plus an integrated Ethernet card. The system also features a slim CDRW/DVD combo drive and is equipped with DVD-playing software. The medium-range version, is equipped with a Intel Celeron M 370 processor, 512 MB RAM, and a 60 GB hard drive; a third model, is fitted with an Intel Pentium M 725 1.6 GHz processor.

The Mini Koobox comes with the Linspire Linux 5.1 operating system, using a 2.6.14 kernel. Linspire 5.1 will take you just about anywhere in the digital world. It is packed with features: a full Internet suite; a complete office suite; digital photo and music managers; advanced notebook and wireless capabilities; and much more. You can manage your favorite tunes with Lsongs, an all-in-one music manager built into Linspire. Burn and rip your favorite music. Organize it, play it, and sync it to portable music players. Lphoto is a pre-installed photo management program that allows you to download, organize, edit, and share your entire photo collection. There's even a complete Open Office application that has all the elements found in Microsoft's Office.
